Medical Malpractice Lawyer Practice Areas:

  • Personal Injury. While personal injury accidents physically affect the victim, their families are often emotionally damaged due to seeing their loved one endure pain and suffering. Medical bills, lost wages and other related expenses can add up quickly, leaving a personal injury victims financially devastated. Personal injury victims are protected by the law and may be eligible to seek compensation from the party that has caused the injury.
  • Vehicle Accidents. Drivers of passenger cars, motorcycles or commercial trucks are all likely to be a victim of a highway accident. Speed, careless driving and drunk drivers play key roles in most accidents on Rhode Island highways. If you have been involved in an accident you may be eligible for compensation from the at-fault driver.
  • Car Accidents. Speeding is the leading cause of fatalities in Rhode Island automobile accidents. Occupants of passenger cars are often the injured victims. Innocent passengers end up paying the price for reckless drivers.
  • Motorcycle Accidents. Motorcyclists involved in accidents are often severely injured. Drivers of cars or trucks fail to see the cyclist in the majority of these accidents. In other cases, the driver of the other vehicle fails to yield the right of way to the cyclist.
  • Trucking Negligence. Driver fatigue, improper truck maintenance and speeding by truck drivers can result in tragic consequences when a highway accident occurs. The large size of trucks are no match for a passenger car, and the occupants of the vehicle are at a high risk for incurring a catastrophic injury.
  • Drunk Driving. Twenty percent, or 1 in 5 Rhode Island drivers, have driven when under the influence of alcohol, and the state leads the country in the number of drivers that have been under the influence of illicit drugs while driving. Impaired driving is a factor in almost half of all fatal vehicle accidents, and the responsible party should be held responsible for his or her reckless actions.
  • Construction Accidents. Construction work is a dangerous occupation, and regardless of the strict safety standards imposed on workers and contractors, hazards still exist and injuries will happen. Falls, electrocution, struck-by objects and collapsing walls or trenches are examples of accidents that can leave workers seriously injured. The injured workers are eligible for state-mandated workers' compensation, and they may also be eligible for additional compensation if their injuries were caused by a third party. If you are injured in a construction accident make sure you receive all compensation to which you are entitled.
  • Slip and Fall. Not all slip and fall accidents are the result of negligence by a property owner. But all property owners have a legal obligation to provide safely maintained premises, and if your fall could have been prevented you may be able to take legal action.
  • Product Injuries. Companies are responsible for providing consumers with safe products that are free of defects and that are clearly labeled with correct usage instructions and appropriate warnings. Consumers are put at risk when an unsafe product is sold, and a serious injury, or death, can be the result.
  • Wrongful Death. When negligence by another person or company causes death, the surviving family members are often emotionally and financially devastated. The families could suffer a loss of income, excessive medical expenses, and mental pain and suffering. While money will not ease the loss, the family should make sure the responsible party is held accountable.
  • Workers' Compensation. Approximately 25,000 employees suffered an on-the-job injury in Rhode Island during 2007. These injuries may be covered by workers' compensation, a state-mandated program.
  • Medical Malpractice. Medical mistakes can result in serious medical consequences, as well as causing the patient and family frustration and lack of trust for the doctors and other health care professionals. If you have been harmed due to a medical error you may be able to file a medical malpractice case to recover compensation from the responsible health care providers.
  • Lead Poisoning. Lead paint is a toxic substance and exposure can result in serious illness such as brain injury, learning disabilities and behavioral problems. The use of lead in most consumer products has been banned in the United States for years. Children are often victims of lead poisoning through exposure to lead paint in toys. If you suspect lead poisoning is the cause of your child's illness you may be able to seek legal action against the manufacturers responsible unsafe toys.
  • Hernia Patch Injuries. A medical device known as the Bard Composix Kugel Mesh Patch has been recalled by Davol, Inc., the manufacturer of the patch. Davol, Inc., has found that the memory coil ring may break during surgical insertion resulting in perforated bowels and other dangerous intestinal problems. Any patient who has a hernia patch should seek immediate medical attention if he experiences unexplained or persistent abdominal pain, fever, or tenderness at the implant site.
  • Asbestos/Mesothelioma. Workers in occupations such as ship building, steel mill work, demolition, and construction are at risk for dangerous levels of asbestos exposure. Exposure to asbestos is the only known cause of mesothelioma, a cancer that affects the cells of the membranes surrounding the body’s internal organs, such as the lungs. If you have been diagnosed with mesothelioma and worked in a high risk occupation where asbestos was used, you may be eligible for compensation from the responsible parties.
  • Bankruptcy. The stigma that was once associated with bankruptcy has been replaced in recent years with the hopes that it can help financially distressed people get a fresh start and get back on their feet. If you are unable to pay current and outstanding bills, bankruptcy may be an option through which you can get relief. If you are unable to meet your financial obligations, you should seek the help of a lawyer to discuss your options.
