Zyprexa: An atypical antipsychotic
medication approved for the short-term treatment of schizophrenia. It has been
approved for the long-term treatment of schizophrenia and for treatment in
various forms for bipolar disorder. An FDA Health Alert issued in April 2005
advised the manufacturers to revise their warning label to include evidence
found that older patients treated with atypical anti-psychotics for dementia had
a higher chance for death than patients who did not take the medicine.
