Machine: A machine is defined as a device, product, or physical thing; one of the statutory classes of inventions.
Manual of Patent Examining Procedure (MPEP): A document that contains a description of the practices and procedures of the
USPTO.
Manufacture: One of the classes of patentable subject matter under U.S. law.
Markush Group: In a claim, a finite group from which an element is selected.
Means for Claim: A patent claim that recites an element as a means for accomplishing a particular function.
Method: One of the classes of patentable inventions under U.S. law.
Misuse: Using a patent right inappropriately, for example, for forcing a license to purchase a product that is not covered by the claims of the patent.
Multiple Dependent Claims: A dependent claim that refers back in the alternative to more than one preceding independent or dependent claim.
Maintenance Fees: In the United States, maintenance fees or taxes must be paid at 3.5, 7.5, and 11.5 years after issuance of a patent in order to maintain the patent in force.
