NY Victims of Crime Attorneys – Madeline Lee Bryer – Client Profile
Madeline Lee Bryer, PC, represents victims of crime, lead poisoning, scald burns and other serious injuries in Manhattan.
Bryer learned about negligence, and being a victim, the hard way. After being victimized in her apartment by a criminal in the 1970s, she sued her landlord. With money she procured from the landlord for negligently securing her apartment, she left her position as a social worker at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital to attend Brooklyn Law School. A Phi Beta Kappa graduate from the University of Maryland with a Social Worker’s degree from Columbia School of Social Work, Bryer graduated from Brooklyn Law School with honors. After working as an associate in top plaintiff and defense firms, she started her own practice in 1987.
She’s been in private practice ever since, and has won many million-dollar settlements and verdicts fighting for rape victims, victims of sexual assault, lead-poisoned children and other victims of serious negligence. A first-generation American whose Austrian-born parents fled Hitler, Bryer also advocates and lobbies for crime victims outside of her practice. Her walls are adorned with newspaper articles that discuss her cases and a 1990 certificate of appreciation for her role on the Mayor’s Task Force Against Sexual Assault from 1986 to 1993.
Bryer’s practice includes two other attorneys. Jonathan Edelstein focuses on complex motion practice and appellate practice. Dennis Donovan has been a paralegal in the firm since 2002, and is currently awaiting admission to the New York Bar.
