Solicitations to Exchange Links

If your site ranks well in Google, you may be receiving numerous requests to exchange links with other sites (sometimes called reciprocal links.) The request typically says something to the effect that exchanging links can improve your rankings. Some say that they have already added your link to their links page, e.g., www.domainnameexample.com/links.html (example only.)

Keep in mind that exchanging links with a site that has a low page rank will do you little good while possibly helping the other site considerably. Some of the sites have decent page ranks for their home page, but very low page ranks for their links page. (A side note: exchanging links with non-related sites (e.g., non-legal sites if you are a law firm) usually does little good.)

I recommend you download the free Google toolbar if you have not done so. It allows you (among other nice features) to see the page rank of any page on the Web - http://toolbar.google.com/.
