Occasionally Outlook will cease working. Some steps to troubleshoot the problem are:

1. Test your e-mail account. Go to Tools > E-mail accounts > View or Change Existing Accounts > Change > Test Account Settings. If your account passes all the tests (no errors are reported), your account is working. If you get an error, delete the account (making sure you record the entries prior to deleting it), put it in again and try Test Account Settings again. If you still do not pass all the tests, report the problem to your e-mail provider.

2. If Outlook still does not work, go to Windows update http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ and make sure you have all of the updates. Note: new service packs occasionally effect anti-virus, Spam or other software. If some of your software ceases working, go to the vendor's support page and see if the vendor reports any conflicts with service packs.

3. If you still have problems, see if you can download your e-mail from your browser Web mail program. If you can send and receive from your browser e-mail progam, you know that there is still a problem with your PC's e-mail account settings.

4. Try setting up a dummy account e.g., test@yourdomainname.com and see if it will send and receive.

When you have a problem or receive an error message, you can often type the error or message code into Google and find a fix or explanation. For example, "problem description and code"
